Begin from the Center!
By Kathleen A. Matchunis
Begin from the center? What does that mean? Does that even make sense? Yes! Everyone has situations which require immediate action, but there are many decisions that we make which determine the direction of our lives, which deserve more time.
If we want to make a good decision which will have a positive effect on our lives, we need to begin from the center- our center. Before making major decisions, we need to center ourselves and ask ourselves which action will bring a positive outcome in our lives. Which action aligns more closely with our hearts? When we allow ego, status, or what other people think of us when deciding which road to take, our vision of what is ultimately good for us is clouded.
This process cannot always take place quickly. We need to delve into what our values are and how our actions reflect those values. Beginning from the center brings us peace and decisions which we can live with. Before we begin from the center, we sometimes need to back away from the situation to have a more complete perspective on what is going on. From there, we need to take our time as to what we want to achieve. Are we using our gifts for the good of mankind?
Beginning from the center leads to decisions which help us live without regrets. Living without regret is one of the best gifts which you can give yourself. In an age where fast reactions and retorts are de rigueur, consider going deep into your center and make the decisions that resonate most with whom you are.
Are you true to yourself or do you allow yourself to be swayed by others? Know who you are and act accordingly. Do not be swayed by what all your co-workers are doing. Do not be influenced by how other parents raise their kids. Learn from others without becoming someone other than yourself.
Are you trying to find yourself? Of course, it is useful to ask trusted friends about their perspectives on issues in your life but are you polling all your friends as to what should do with your life? Maybe you need to explore what you really want and what decisions you can live with in your life. Using this approach, you can live your life with few regrets.
