Is Your Lack of Forgiveness Holding You Back?
By Kathleen Matchunis, President of Connecting, Inc.
Have you ever withheld forgiveness or plotted revenge against someone?
Who did that hurt in the end? YOU! Withholding forgiveness saps our energy and fills our bodies and souls with negativity. This can only have a detrimental effect on our physical and mental health. So, when you choose not to forgive someone (and it is a choice), we really harm ourselves more than anyone else.
But how can I forgive? If you visualize the offending person as a small child who doesn’t know better than to cause harm, you can facilitate the process. Actually, we are all small children in the sense that if we knew better, we would not cause harm to others. You would have nothing but compassion for a child who did something to cause harm without fully understanding the ramification of his/her actions, right?
When we know better, we do better. Since we are all on our individual spiritual paths, we do not know where the other people are on their journey.
Forgive! Why? Forgive to set yourself free and move on with your life. Forgive to set an example for the other person and others. Forgive because you value your relationships more than the need to be right.
Forgive- because it is the right thing to do and you will better for it!
